This means that revenue and jobs generated by the growth of MCG will remain in our community. This is part of our commitment to our neighbors.
MCG is investing in our community by installing high speed fiber optic links to area homes and businesses. This investment places Oskaloosa among the leading U.S. communities in communication technology. Access to broadband Internet provides future opportunities for distance learning for our community's youth and adult population, as well as telecommuting, video conferencing and E-commerce capabilities.
Community Access Channels
To keep residents of the Oskaloosa community informed, educated, and entertained, MCG offers two community access channels - MCG Channel 7 and MCG Channel 12 provide residents with local news about upcoming events. MCG also airs locally produced broadcasts of government meetings, church services, sporting events, and other creative programming.
History
Mahaska Communication Group (MCG) is a local company based in Oskaloosa, Iowa. The company was originally formed by the world-wide Musco Sports Lighting company, also based in Oskaloosa to overcome limitations in local communication services and provide reliable, high-quality communication services for Musco.
For the economic development and future viability of the community, these services need to be offered to the public, including both businesses and residents. MCG embarked on a community-wide build out plan and proceeded to develop a fiber-to-the-home network at affordable rates. The network has the ability to adapt enhanced services to ensure a state-of-the-art network for years to come. Today, MCG provides high quality service to over 2,500 residents and over 350 businesses in the community of Oskaloosa. At the completion of the project, MCG will have invested nearly $12 million in the community.
As a result of this commitment, MCG has added over 40 new jobs in Oskaloosa. Businesses are realizing significant savings over what they were previously paying because of more reliable, high-quality services. Choosing MCG has had a direct effect on bottom-line results. MCG residential television, telephone and Internet customers experience higher quality services, one simple bill, and a local office with local support and local technicians.
