Our annual eCycle event keeps hazardous electronic waste out of landfills and waterways. Since 2007, the Oskaloosa eCycle program has diverted more than 753,000 pounds of e‑waste.

In 2025 alone, we collected over 27,000 pounds in Grinnell and 45,000 pounds in Oskaloosa, and we’re aiming to exceed 80,000 pounds this year.

Electronics contain toxic materials, but also valuable, recoverable resources. Recycling helps protect our environment while reclaiming materials for reuse.

RECYCLING BENEFITS

  • E‑waste includes valuable recoverable resources like gold, copper, aluminum, steel, silver, palladium, and recyclable plastics.

  • In 2022, the estimated value of raw materials embedded in global e‑waste was $91 billion, much of which is lost when devices are discarded rather than recycled.

WHY ECYCLE MATTERS

  • Electronics can contain toxic materials, including lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, and brominated flame retardants that may contaminate air, soil, and water when improperly disposed of.

  • Older CRT TVs and computer monitors can contain 2–5 pounds of lead each, which increases environmental and health risks, especially for children and pregnant women.
