CONSTRUCTION OVERVIEW
FOR THE MAHASKA COUNTY FIBER BUILD
We are excited to announce that we are providing fast and reliable internet service to all of Mahaska County!
In March 2024, the Mahaska County Board of Supervisors approved a contract with MCG to build the infrastructure needed for broadband services in Mahaska County. The county received federal funding from the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Fund, established under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and signed into law on March 11, 2021. According to Sections 602(c)(1) and 603(c)(1) of ARPA, these funds can be utilized for essential investments in water, sewer, and broadband infrastructure. This government funding covers enough costs to deliver fiber internet to the homes of one-third of rural Mahaska County.
It is crucial to expand the internet service to the remaining two-thirds of the area, known as PHASE 2, in partnership with Musco and Mahaska County. However, PHASE 2 cannot commence until the NOFA 7 segment is completed.
PHASE 1 encompasses the following sections within the government-funded NOFA 7 area. These sections require specific timelines for purchasing materials and completion of the fiber construction:
Mahaska 1 - 24
Mahaska 24
Mahaska 26
Mahaska 30
Mahaska 32
The design for Mahaska County's project centers around completing these sections in PHASE 1 before any construction can occur in PHASE 2. Although it may seem like your home has been overlooked, please know that the entire county is included in this build-out. The NOFA 7 portion determines the construction order and the associated timelines.
